At the crossroads of waste treatment and energy production, methanisation is a process that can be found in agricultural installations as well as in wastewater treatment plants, in agri-food industries or in units treating bio-waste. Accidents and incidents in this activity have increased in recent years. This document presents a synthesis. Disturbances, causes and consequences have been examined and the main lessons for preventing accidents and incidents in this sector have been identified.

Given they are omnipresent in our connected societies and boosted by the boom in new mobilities and power storage, demand for lithium-ion (Li-ion) cells and batteries  is constantly increasing. In this study, BARPI has analysed all events involving Li-ion batteries since the 2000s in non-waste business sectors and excluding use by non-business customers (telephones and laptops, electromobility, etc.). The study thus provides details of accidents occurring during the life cycle of these batteries: research, design, use and storage on site before sending to waste facilities.
